The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County proudly announces that Alana Trissel, a graduate of Burris Laboratory School, has been awarded the 2024 eKeeper Unparalleled Excellence Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship is given to high school seniors who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in academics, arts, athletics, and community service.
The eKeeper Unparalleled Excellence Scholarship Fund, established through The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, aims to support young individuals on their path to success. The scholarship is awarded to students who embody excellence in multiple areas. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.75 or higher, be in the top 10% of their class, and demonstrate involvement and leadership in music programs, sports, or other artistic endeavors, as well as active participation and leadership in community service projects or charitable events.
Alana Trissel exemplifies the core values of the eKeeper Unparalleled Excellence Scholarship. A graduate of Burris Laboratory School, Alana plans to pursue a degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish at Indiana University. Her academic achievements include excelling in advanced placement courses in Chemistry and Biology, subjects that have fueled her passion for the molecular sciences. In addition to her academic success, Alana has been actively involved in school music programs and athletics, showcasing her diverse talents and dedication. Her leadership also extends beyond the classroom, as she has played significant roles in various student organizations and community service initiatives.
Alana’s journey toward excellence began at a young age.
Her early fascination with math and science laid the foundation for her interest in the medical field. Alana’s passion was further ignited during her junior year when she took AP Chemistry and discovered the intriguing world of molecular science. Her senior year in AP Biology only deepened her interest, leading her to choose Biochemistry as her major. This field of study, broad enough to encompass various healthcare areas, will allow her to explore different facets of the medical profession. Additionally, her decision to minor in Spanish stems from her long-standing passion for the language and her desire to enhance cultural understanding and empathy—qualities she deems essential for a future medical provider.
Alana draws inspiration from her mother, Kristi Trissel, a Respiratory Therapist and a mother of four, whose resilience and dedication have been a guiding influence. Kristi’s commitment to her profession and family, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, has instilled in Alana a strong sense of empathy and a desire to contribute positively to society. Alana’s decision to minor in Spanish reflects her commitment to cultural understanding and empathy, qualities she believes are essential for her future career in the medical field. By becoming proficient in a second language, Alana aims to enhance her ability to connect with and serve a diverse patient population.
… continuously looking for ways to learn.
Alana lives by the principle of “unparalleled excellence,” which she defines as having no rival or equal in merit of achievements in academics. She states, “Through my academic accolades and my proficiency in collegiate-level classes, I have actively exercised the ideology of ‘unparalleled excellence’. I live by the quote, ‘If you are the smartest in the room, you are probably in the wrong room.’ I am well aware that I will never be the most intelligent in the room, but I will be the most hard-working. ‘Unparalleled excellence’ is not achieved by showing up and getting a good grade; it is applying yourself inside and outside of the classroom and continuously looking for ways to learn.”
A Supportive Community
